A family in Naples, Florida, has filed a lawsuit against NASA. The family is demanding $80,000 in compensation, claiming that a small piece falling from the sky damaged their house’s roof.
The incident occurred on March 8. At that time, a 700-gram object fell onto Alejandro Otero’s house, creating a hole in the roof. Otero’s son was at home at the time, but it was reported that no one was injured in the incident. NASA confirmed that the object that fell on the house was part of a used battery cargo plate.
It had been discarded as space debris at the International Space Station in 2021. Usually, these objects burn up upon re-entry to Earth’s surface, but this one had survived.
